About

Danton ChinI am a software developer currently focused on developing applications for the iPhone. Years ago looking for alternatives to procedural programming I came across OOP and became entranced with NeXTStep. After NeXT bit the dust I worked with Java as the language was born and the platform grew. I have developed Flex, Air, and Java applications and have experience with application servers and relational databases. I hold a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degrees in Geology and an MBA in Finance. I am open to all opportunities and can be reached at danton at iphonedeveloperjournal dot com.

In my public life I won three election campaigns on a “technology matters” platform to serve nine years on the Board of Education in Pelham, NY, finishing as vice president. During my tenure on the Board of Education the district passed a $27 million bond to build a new middle school with state-of-the-art technology and won the 2006-2007 LHRIC Pioneer Award for Innovative Use of Technology. Another bond was passed in 2008 for $24 million to renovate the high school and for an addition at Colonial Elementary School. As part of the high school renovation the library was redesigned and the redesign and renovation work will be complete in November 2010. Several months were spent by the Library Renovation Committee to redesign the new library. The Library Renovation Committee consisted of faculty members, the librarians, community members, Domenic LaPierre (architect, Ashley-McGraw), thought leaders on library design, and the Buildings and Grounds Committee (John Brice, Martha Conforti, and myself). Domenic LaPierre and his team conducted extensive group interviews with representatives of all stakeholders in the educational community — students and teachers from all academic disciplines. Peter Gisolfi Associates and his architects are the architects for the high school renovation and the addition at Colonial as well as carrying out the vision of the Library Renovation Committee. The results of their work is beautiful.

I also love art and music, exploring new places, and most of all meeting new people. If you see me I’d love to say hello!
